Police K-9 Officer NERO

K-9 Nero was killed, his partner/handler Officer Chris Hensley seriously injured, when their Police SUV was struck head-on by an 18-wheel tanker truck. Just before midnight, Ofc. Hensley stopped to assist a stranded motorist. He activated his lights and pulled into the median of the Interstate to keep other vehicles from hitting the driver and his disabled vehicle. An 18-wheel tanker truck veered into the median and hit the patrol cruiser head on, crushing the front end and ripping apart the entire passenger side of the vehicle. The tanker, carrying hazardous material (Freon), then over-turned. K-9 Nero was killed instantly. Officer Hensley suffered critical injuries. After undergoing surgeries, Ofc. Hensley is going much better. Though he has a long road ahead of him, this Warrior is expected to make a full (physical) recovery.
Chris is a member of the Neighborhood Enhancement Team (N.E.T.) and he and Nero work the Highway Interdiction Team (HIT) among their other duties, such as patrol, narcotics detection and tracking. (I will update Nero’s personal life bio in the coming days).
